The consortium has profound experience in the field of education, in particular regarding Vocational Education and Training (VET) and/or adult education; many partners have experience in language training (as second language) for the specific target group of migrants/unemployed. Three partners (DE, NL, FR) have recognised skills, expertise and competences in the field of VET in construction. The consortium also covers the fields of academic research, theoretical and practical teacher education in the field of language training (UK). The partners have proven competence as to dissemination and exploitation of results.
Almost all partners have good contacts to national and/or European key actors/stakeholders. One partner (DE) is member of FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation). This is of particular relevance for the sustainability of the project results as these enterprises can offer/finance language training. Some of the partners employ a big number of teachers/trainers, one component of the direct target group. One partner (AT) has some 10 000 trainers in its database. Most partners have good relations with the national Employment Agencies which will be asked to offer such language courses for unemployed construction workers or unemployed wishing to work in the construction sector. Those of the partners working in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and adult education will offer new language courses based on the project results in their educational programmes both for use for individuals or companies and Employment Agencies.
The partners come from countries with a high proportion of low-skilled migrant workers on construction sites with major deficits in the host country language. This is the reason why we have not chosen partners from Eastern Europe (where the number of migrant workers on building sites is less important and/or in most cases understand the (Slavic) language practiced in the host country or from Scandinavian countries where far less low-skilled migrant workers are employed on construction sites. In SE construction work is a high status occupation with strong trade unions, high salaries and not easy to enter for low-skilled migrant workers without formal vocational training and certificates.
